The Centre for Assistive Technology for Life Skill Training (CATELIST) was set up in September 2008 with the following objectives -
Assessment, Evaluation and Recommendations for Assistive Tools and Technological Devices
Training for Use of Assistive Technology for PWD and Senior Citizens.
What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive Technology is the use of equipment or a product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified or customised to increase, maintain or improve functional capabilities (learning, communication, access, mobility etc.) of a child with disability.
The CATELST Centre offers
Assessment, Evaluation and Recommendations for Assistive Tools and Technological Devices
Training for Use of Assistive Technology for persons with disabilities.
Workshops for schools and professionals / parent groups in assistive technology.
A range of assistive devices to suit the child’s environment; software and apps, are available in the unit.

Impact:
SSK won the ‘Social Innovation Honour for Outstanding Vision and Commitment to Excellence in the field of ICT for the Community, “Non-Profit Organization” Category for 2008-09 award for the project: ‘AT Centre to bring Technology to the aid of persons with special needs’.
An International Conference on Assistive Technology - A Key to Inclusion “For a Better Quality of Life for Children and Adults with Special Needs” was organized by SSK at Indian Institute of Science Campus, Bangalore on 23rd and 24th July, 2010. On this occasion, a Compendium on Assistive Technology was released.
